Tamarack & our upcoming plans
Current mood: optimistic
Tamarack was a blast, and several people said they took pictures of our light show behind us, so as soon as I get some copies I'll post them.
We're hoping to perform in the spring at Bolling House of Art in Bluefield. The date will be set as soon as they get their calendar in order. By then, we should have pieces ready that include our new HANDSONIC 10! It's lots of fun and adds a new dimension to the music.
We'll be playing acoustic Christmas tunes to benefit the Alderson Hospitality House, but the date is up in the air. They are having an open house on December 7th from 1 to 5PM, which we'll be playing at if we make it back from Roanoke in time. Otherwise we'll reschedule and I'll post that date.
We're playing at one wedding so far in the Spring. If anyone is interested in our acoustic music for a wedding or knows someone who might be, please check out our website <
www.magsmusic.net/music.html> or our myspace <
www.myspace.com/timandmag>. The wedding music isn't on there, but the sound of the flute and guitar is, so you can get an idea.
Maggie is toying with the idea of an acoustic concert with classical/contemporary flute and guitar so she can practice her flute up again. She's been slipping since 1998. If this happens, it won't be until next year, but we'll be sure to invite everyone.
We're still thinking about making a CD of fiddle tunes, but recording priorities right now are with the latest CLB tunes: Martian Princess, Glass Atom, Stolen Drums, and Phantom Waltz. After that, we might actually record some of our wedding music so people can listen to sound samples.
All for now... Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas to everyone!
Here are two posts from our debut concert in May of 2007:

THE DAY BEFORE TAMARACK
Current mood: optimistic
Well, it's the day before Tamarack, which is our debut full-concert performance (other than open mics). We were told to make it about an hour, which we thought would be easy, but we found it quite difficult to decide which pieces to cut! We didn't realize how much music we actually had until we had to shorten it to an hour! After heart-wrenching decisions , the final cut includes two new pieces that aren't on our CD: "WTFT" (Well Tempered Flooty Thing) and another tentatively named "Elves on the Moon". You can guess what "WTFT" sounds like...a fun little fugue. "Elves" sounds like a cross between soundtracks from "Elf", "Home Alone", and "Harry Potter". You just gotta hear it...
On a side note, I'd like to mention that the piece "Lorelei & Coriander" is dedicated to our friends at the RiffRaff for their unending support and friendship! It also uses FIVE of my seven octaves!
I'll write again tomorrow to let those who couldn't make it (loosers!) know how it went.

the evening after Tamarack
Current mood: relieved
The concert at Tamarack was a blast! I was all glittered up, and Tim had on his "captain-lazerblast-band" tie. We had a bit of a scare starting last night as the car was acting up again, but it made it there and back. (Here I go back to the fixit place in the AM.) Between our invites and Tamarack regulars, we had a pretty full house. It lasted just about an hour, skipping intermission. (We didn't want to give too many people a chance to leave.) A few people didn't care for it, and they left at polite intervals. Our stuff definitely isn't typical for Tamarack, and someone not knowing what to expect got a surprise. Others stayed, and told us afterwards that it was very entertaining and/or interesting. I'd say overall it was a success!
My "flooty-thing" is acting up, so it may have to visit the doctor for a week or more. Fortunately, it's still under warranty. I'm not scheduling anything for the next month to make sure there's enough time to get it back into tip-top shape!
Thanks to all who came! We appreciate you!
LAST KNOWN TRAMSMISSIONS FROM FLOOTOPIA
"Captain! We're approaching planet 3:2 of the Pythagorean System!"
"Just as predicted, Beloved Sidekick"
"Captain! Our orbit seems to be a spiral - off by 81 over 80 from a circle."
"No problem, Sidekick. This is more common than most realize. We can negotiate the enhormonic zone with a little tonal stretch."
"As you say, Captain - Wait! Look at that! The ring of the planet - it has open holes! And they seem to be resonating in a linear fashion."
"Indeed, Sidekick; it may be the legendary planet Flootopia. This is more than we hoped for."
"Captain; The lower frequency signals seem to over-blow by 2 to 1."
"Not unusual, sidekcik, but be careful of the register keys. Our electronic controls may be altered by ring modulation. We can use an inverted signal to enhance the signal to noise ratio."
"Indeed, Captian; there seem to be some unpredictable overtones."
"No reason to worry Beloved Sidekick. Lock in your embochure and set the output device for minus 4 decibels."
"Catpain! We are getting some unwanted power supply artifacts at the output stage. That 60Hz hum is horrific."
"No problem. Ensign Blankenship can beam down first - the guy in the red shirt."
"I don't think he came back from the last planet, Captain - the planet Riff Raff."
"Oh, that's right. Well, hold on; if this is indeed the legendary Flootopia, we are in for some sonic thrills."
The Flootopia CD contains the last known trasmissions from Capt. Lazerblast and his small band of sonic explorers on Flootopia. Open your ears and beam down!
